Wasteful Thinking

With the weather getting colder, you might be tempted to start your vehicle up, let it idle for 15 or 20 minutes and then get in the nice, cozy cabin.  Some vehicles offer remote starting that let you do that from the comfort of your home or apartment.  But is letting your vehicle idle like that good for it? Manufacturers say it doesn't harm the vehicle.  They say it's because modern vehicles are made differently from those in the past.  Just about all newer vehicles employ fuel injection which uses computers to adjust the amount of gasoline that goes into the cylinders.  The engine gets only the fuel it needs, taking conditions into account. Older vehicles, on the other hand, used to use carburetors.  When you started a cold engine, the carburetor wasn't able to adjust the gasoline amount depending on conditions.  Some of the gasoline would mix with oil and the pistons wouldn't get the same lubrication as they would with undiluted oil. So yes, you ca ... read more

Automotive Tips from Gordie's Garage Inc: Tire Replacement Overview

Tires are an expensive purchase, so knowing when tires should be replaced is important for ROSEVILLE drivers. Tires will just wear out with normal use. The depth of the tread on your tire determines how well it will stop, start and steer – especially in wet conditions. 4/32th of an inch (3.2 mm) of tire tread is considered a safe amount of tread.Uneven tread wear can be a symptom of other problems, and simply replacing your tires will not prevent the same uneven wear from happening to the new tires. At Gordie's Garage Inc in ROSEVILLE, we can inspect your tires for excessive or uneven wear. Unusual wear may lead to further inspection of steering, suspension or alignment problems. We can help with necessary repairs and with getting you the right tires for your needs.Give us a call.Gordie's Garage Inc29046 CALAHAN RDROSEVILLE, MI 4806658

Keep Your Cool in ROSEVILLE: Air Conditioning Services

Most ROSEVILLE drivers don't even think about their air conditioner. Now here's a tip for ROSEVILLE vehicle owners: Run your air conditioner every so often during MI winters. This circulates the lubricant to help keep the seals from drying out. The air conditioner actually removes some of the moisture in the air. So if you have trouble with fogging on your vehicle windshield during MI winters or during a rain storm, running the A/C on the defrost setting should help. Now on some ROSEVILLE cars you can't run the A/C at the same time as the defroster. Don't ask me why, but I suspect lawyers were involved. Also, air and water can get into the A/C system. That can reduce the efficiency of the system and also lead to corrosion that causes damage. ROSEVILLE drivers should periodically purge the system and replace the refrigerant to remove the air and water.MI drivers would be wise to ... read more

Give me a Brake (Light)!

If that little brake warning light pops up on your dash, do you know what it means? Well, if you said no, you wouldn't be alone. You know it has something to do with your brakes, but exactly what? You're not sure. One of the reasons is that it could mean a lot of different things. It could be something simple, like you put your parking brake on and forgot to take it off. Easy fix, you're on the road in seconds. Or, it could mean there's something wrong with your anti-lock brake system. That is a pretty complex symphony of speed sensors, computers and wiring, and sometimes things get a little out of whack. You could have a defective sensor or some wiring may have gotten damaged or come loose. A trained technician at Gordie's Garage Inc with special equipment can sort it all out. It's also possible you have low brake fluid. That could be caused by a number of things. One simple reason is that your brake pads have worn down. Replacing them could solve the problem. Another possibility is t ... read more

Stay Safe in ROSEVILLE by Putting Your Cell Phone on ICE

We don't want to think about it, but each ROSEVILLE resident who drives or rides in a vehicle is potentially an accident victim. In the worst-case scenario, those people are unconscious and unable to communicate with MI rescue workers. Rescue workers and ROSEVILLE police are well aware of this difficulty, even if the rest of us don't stop to think about it. They can all recount stories of searching through glove compartments, pockets, wallets, purses and cell phone directories for a person's name and for contact information for someone who can help them get the person the medical care they need. This contact information is critical in an accident because ROSEVILLE medical workers need to know about allergies and potential drug interactions. Also, in MI, some medical treatments can't be provided without authorization or consent, and there can be insurance and billing issues if the person's medical care is not properly arranged. ICE provides a solution for these con ... read more
